The Biden administration has called on Congress to address the highly outdated immigration system, announced the White House on Monday. During the daily news conference, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre reiterated that the immigration system is in dire need of an update, including the long-neglected temporary visa programs that have remained unchanged for over two decades.
Presently, individuals with specific temporary visas are typically given a 60-day timeframe to secure new employment, explore alternative visa classifications, or prepare to leave the United States. Jean-Pierre emphasized the responsibility of Congress to pass legislation that aligns with the requirements of the current 21st-century economy. She stated that it is crucial for Congress to fulfill their role and update the immigration laws to keep pace with the present circumstances.
Highlighting the significance of the issue, President Joe Biden prioritized immigration reform by introducing legislation on his first day in office. Jean-Pierre responded to a query by explaining that this swift action was necessary because of the deeply flawed and broken nature of the immigration system.
