In a bid to woo tourists from Thailand, Kazakhstan is planning to waive visas for Thailand nationals.
The move is under consideration as Air Astana, Kazakh flag carrier has launched its second direct air service from Astana to Bangkok. The Kazakh ambassador to Thailand, Marat Yessenbayev said that the visa-free regime for Thailand nationals would take place within 18 months.
He added that they are working towards exemption of visas with the foreign ministry of Thailand. He added that this move will act as a major source of visitors especially. The measure to exempt visas for tourists by Thais demonstrates Astana’s aim to enhance its tourism and open doors for expo 2017 in Astana.
Sources stated that the country drew 4.8 million overseas inbound tourists in 2012. And, Malaysia, Japan, and Hong Kong are the countries that are benefited from the visa-free regime.
